It’s been a while since I wrote anything here. I wonder if anyone still reads these, haha.
It’s already August, which means the studio has been open for over a year now. A lot has happened since my last post.
One of the things I’m most proud of was getting to work with The Australian Ballet.
One day, I got an email saying they were looking for a photographer with the right skills and experience. I honestly thought it was spam at first. Then I clicked the email address linked in the message and realised it was actually from The Australian Ballet.
At that point, I didn’t really know how big they were. So I looked them up and realised they’re essentially Australia’s national ballet company, based right here in Melbourne, with a huge number of performances and international tours.
The job was part of the preparation for one of those international tours. I photographed and edited around 100 people, and thankfully everything went smoothly. We finished the whole thing and exchanged our thanks afterwards.
Would I have imagined something like this a year ago?
Probably not.
When I first opened the studio, I had so many thoughts in my head. Am I actually doing this right? What if people never find us? I know I’m confident in my work, but what if no one even gets to see it?
Then somehow, 13 months passed.
I looked back recently and realised I’ve photographed almost 650 people, taken tens of thousands of photos, edited thousands of them, and met people from dozens of different countries.
I know I won’t be doing this forever. But for now, I’m genuinely grateful for where I am, for the work that keeps coming in, and for all the people who have trusted me with their photos.
