Behind the Lens
I often wonder when this love for photography began. Perhaps it was as a child, insisting on taking a photo of my parents right after they had taken one of me. Maybe it was the quiet joy of capturing a smile during a university break, working part-time at a local photo studio and thinking that one day, I would have a space of my own.
Coming from South Korea, I truly never thought I would open that studio here in Melbourne. Yet somehow, I did.
When I opened the studio, I had no idea where it would take me. I just wanted to create a space that felt like my own. Something a little different from the traditional photo studios I had known. A place with a modern aesthetic, clean lighting, and the kind of natural, polished look I love in K-beauty photography.
More than a year has passed since then.
In that time, I’ve photographed more than 600 people, worked with The Australian Ballet for one of their international tours, and had the chance to collaborate with various businesses and organisations around Melbourne.
Some of those opportunities were things I never expected when I first opened the doors. I still remember receiving the email from The Australian Ballet and wondering if it was spam. Moments like that make me realise how much can happen in just a year.
Of course, the studio is still a small space built from a very simple idea. I take the photos, edit them, talk to clients, answer messages, and try to make each session a little better than the last.
But looking back, I’m really happy with how far it has come.
This studio started with a dream of having a space of my own. Now it has become a place where I get to meet people from all over the world and help them keep a little piece of their time here in Melbourne.
And for now, that feels like more than enough.
